He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?  ~Micah 6:8

Threads of Grace

Life is messy

Welcome to Simply Susan, where I write honestly about faith, marriage, motherhood and the everyday threads of God’s grace.

So grab a coffee.
Pull up a chair.
I’m so glad you’re here.

Walking humblythrough faith, family and life’s adventures.

Come in, come in! Have a seat around the table so we can pause, pour a coffee, and discover God’s grace woven through the threads of everyday life.

Life hasn’t always been neat and tidy, None of my ducks are in a row. Like many women, I’ve known seasons of joy, disappointment, deep hurt, and unexpected adventure. As I look back over the years, I can see the threads of God’s grace woven through every season—through joy and heartbreak, marriage and motherhood, unanswered questions, quiet faithfulness, and even the unexpected adventures of later life.

Looking back over my life, I can see a thread.

Sometimes that disappeared beneath grief.

Sometimes it seemed tangled beyond repair.

Sometimes it was woven with unexpected joy.

But through every season, God never let go of the thread.

Simply Susan is where I share honest reflections on marriage, motherhood, faith, books, coffee, being a SAHM, working outside the home, motorcycles, and the everyday moments where God’s grace quietly meets us.

What is the Chief End of Homeschooling?

What is the Chief End of Homeschooling?

The Chief End of Homeschooling: there is an eternal reason for all this mess, untidiness, and constant training. That reason is that God wants ALL of us- our entire life. Our goal is to love God and glorify Him forever – in the midst of spilled Weetbix and poopie nappies and children that can’t spell.

How Do We Parent?

When I see the way that God parents me I am more able to parent my children in love, in grace…with discipline as it should be – loving discipline. Discipline that restores, not tears down or breaks hearts. Every action the Father does toward me is one of restoration, although I don’t always see that at the time. But it is. That is His nature and I trust Him.

Delighting in our children

I learn more about the nature of God through being a parent. I delight in watching and being with my children. Yet I am only a reflection, a shadow of the True Parent. How much does God, the ontological parent, delight in us?

Hang It!

Hang It!

There is something special and beautiful about hanging one's clean laundry on the line. I love the fresh crispness of the clothes... knowing that they've been additionally whitened, brightened and deodorised by the shining sun. I still use the dryer for some things...

Who, Why, What, When: Christmas In Our Home

Yes, yet another re-post from the archives... We don't 'do' Christmas. Years ago when the children were small, we tried. But we would get a knot in the pits of our stomach. A few years ago, the commercialism of it all used to be a huge bother to me...now I've pretty...
