Threads of Grace
Life is messy
Welcome to Simply Susan, where I write honestly about faith, marriage, motherhood and the everyday threads of God’s grace.
So grab a coffee.
Pull up a chair.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Walking humblythrough faith, family and life’s adventures.
Come in, come in! Have a seat around the table so we can pause, pour a coffee, and discover God’s grace woven through the threads of everyday life.
Life hasn’t always been neat and tidy, None of my ducks are in a row. Like many women, I’ve known seasons of joy, disappointment, deep hurt, and unexpected adventure. As I look back over the years, I can see the threads of God’s grace woven through every season—through joy and heartbreak, marriage and motherhood, unanswered questions, quiet faithfulness, and even the unexpected adventures of later life.

Looking back over my life, I can see a thread.
Sometimes that disappeared beneath grief.
Sometimes it seemed tangled beyond repair.
Sometimes it was woven with unexpected joy.
But through every season, God never let go of the thread.
Simply Susan is where I share honest reflections on marriage, motherhood, faith, books, coffee, being a SAHM, working outside the home, motorcycles, and the everyday moments where God’s grace quietly meets us.

When Joking Hurts: A Lesson from Proverbs
I’ve often been asked to share what our Bible study looks like using our methods as outlined in a Bible Based Education. Here is a quick lesson. Bear in mind that I didn’t write this lesson plan before hand…I was reading it in my Bible during my quiet time and thought it was too good (read: relevant) to not share with my children.
Which Bible?
Which Bible do we use? Quite a few! Some are better than others for reading or studying. What am I able to read and understand? What will I actually read, as opposed to leave sitting on the bedside table? The Bible has been translated into over 75 different...

Curriculum Planning
Curriculum Planning: Why does the appearance of what we do always change? Because learning at home adventure is not static- because one size does not fit all, because each of my children are unique in their needs and interests, passions and gifts. Focus on your priority goals and be surprised at results. Every lesson that you learn along the way should be shared with your children. They will learn along with you and these life lessons are the most important. This allows for births, deaths, marriages and all those other real life circumstances that will interfere with your lovely homeschool plans! But, they are most important- for they are real. Know your goals. Know your limitations. Know that God is in control.
Emotionally Absent
The lights are on but nobody’s home. I was physically present but emotionally absent from my home and the lives of those most precious to me.
Teenage Rebellion in the Homeschooling Family
Sadly, I think there is a lot of myth and fear surrounding the teen years, especially amongst home schoolers. There comes a time in everyone’s life where they start to examine and question the big issues of life: why are we here? Who put us here? What happens when we die? Our answer or thoughts to these questions make us do the things we do. This isn’t always direct rebellion, it is a natural part of a healthy life.

Process of Learning: How Do You Learn?
How do you learn? Who I am, how I learn, what I believe makes up who I am as a parent, and therefore a homeschooler. There have been occasions where I’ve heard a snippet of an idea about something but I don’t have much interest so I don’t investigate. I may almost…

My MassAttack
As I wrote yesterday, I don’t eat much food…much real food. The quality of the food I eat also isn’t the best as I’m not able to swallow and take many foods that I used to like. I loved oranges but I can’t eat them very well now. I like…
My new nutritional program
Being a low energy homeschool mum is no fun. And I’m sure you’ve heard that saying, “If Mama ain’t happy, then no one is happy”. I was sick and tired of being tired all the time. I knew that my fitness levels had something to do with it,…
Approaching…the corner
Last Monday marked my 19th week of exercising- minus about 4 weeks off during that time. Some readers may remember my goal to be Fit n 40. Well, at first I didn’t think I was going to make that goal…but looking back I do think I have made forward steps…

To celebrate or not to celebrate…
Yes, it's that time of the year again...I have previously written about how we do, or don't, celebrate Christmas. Rather than try to rewrite old thoughts I will just copy and paste from the archives. You can find the original post here. Well it's that time of year...
