Threads of Grace

Life is messy

Welcome to Simply Susan, where I write honestly about faith, marriage, motherhood and the everyday threads of God’s grace.

So grab a coffee.
Pull up a chair.
I’m so glad you’re here.

Walking humblythrough faith, family and life’s adventures.

Come in, come in! Have a seat around the table so we can pause, pour a coffee, and discover God’s grace woven through the threads of everyday life.

Life hasn’t always been neat and tidy, None of my ducks are in a row. Like many women, I’ve known seasons of joy, disappointment, deep hurt, and unexpected adventure. As I look back over the years, I can see the threads of God’s grace woven through every season—through joy and heartbreak, marriage and motherhood, unanswered questions, quiet faithfulness, and even the unexpected adventures of later life.

Looking back over my life, I can see a thread.

Sometimes that disappeared beneath grief.

Sometimes it seemed tangled beyond repair.

Sometimes it was woven with unexpected joy.

But through every season, God never let go of the thread.

Simply Susan is where I share honest reflections on marriage, motherhood, faith, books, coffee, being a SAHM, working outside the home, motorcycles, and the everyday moments where God’s grace quietly meets us.

Faith

Grace: Received, Not Achieved.

What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it? 1Corinthians 4:7 Why, oh why do I (man) like to think that I have something, just a little something, to do with my salvation. Do I not realise that in...

“The goal of this system is simple, and twofold: To know scripture, and to love and obey God more!“ I want to share a really cool Bible reading plan. At the beginning of the year when it is customary to begin all new things, many people were posting their new plan for...

Michal: first wife of King David

Knowing I was going to be laid up recently I had been on the lookout for a new fiction book. I don't remember how I came to find out about this new series but I'm glad that I did. I have been wondering if I'd find a series to enjoy as much as I loved Gods and Kings......

Friday: From the Archives Each Friday I plan to post a previous post from the archives. Hope you enjoy it! What’s your measuring stick? (Originally posted here in Nov, 2005) What do I use as a yardstick to measure my family’s growth by? I think a lot of us…

No Teens Here

No Teens Here

There was a time when I banned the word ‘teen’ from our home. Being that the concept of ‘teenagers’ is a relatively new phenomenon we wanted to avoid the whole drama that seems to be synonymous with those teenage years. But you may have noticed…

Crunch Time

Regular readers will know that I like the Body for Life program by Bill Phillips, as well as Burn the Fat by Tom Venuto. I think they’re great ways for homeschool mums to get fit, healthy and strong…in a minimum of time. As busy homeschool mums and wives,…

Resistance Training

Just learned that weight lifting is the second lowest injury sport one can do. Walking is the safest and then weight lifting bcz it is done in a controlled, supervised way unlike many other activities. However, more than walking, weight lifting after searching…

Coffee with Conscience

I love my coffee. Everyone who knows me knows that. My daughter is a barista and has studied, and continues to study, the art, the history, the science of coffee- from the plant to harvesting, roasting and grinding. Somewhere along the line I learned about Fair...

Domestic Science Routine 2009

Domestic Science Routine 2009

Confession time! I am not a highly organised person. I like the cosy warmth of clutter. I love my ornaments and nick-knacks as they all have a story behind them…they have sentimental value. I can’t take them with me when I go to be with the Lord, and I can live without them, but they are like good friends- I like to have them around.
