Threads of Grace
Life is messy
Welcome to Simply Susan, where I write honestly about faith, marriage, motherhood and the everyday threads of God’s grace.
So grab a coffee.
Pull up a chair.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Walking humblythrough faith, family and life’s adventures.
Come in, come in! Have a seat around the table so we can pause, pour a coffee, and discover God’s grace woven through the threads of everyday life.
Life hasn’t always been neat and tidy, None of my ducks are in a row. Like many women, I’ve known seasons of joy, disappointment, deep hurt, and unexpected adventure. As I look back over the years, I can see the threads of God’s grace woven through every season—through joy and heartbreak, marriage and motherhood, unanswered questions, quiet faithfulness, and even the unexpected adventures of later life.

Looking back over my life, I can see a thread.
Sometimes that disappeared beneath grief.
Sometimes it seemed tangled beyond repair.
Sometimes it was woven with unexpected joy.
But through every season, God never let go of the thread.
Simply Susan is where I share honest reflections on marriage, motherhood, faith, books, coffee, being a SAHM, working outside the home, motorcycles, and the everyday moments where God’s grace quietly meets us.

Daily Quiet Times
I don’t want to play the game of religion. I don’t even want to play the game of Christianity. I want to know God and I want to walk with Him. There was a time when I felt secure in my life because of certain ‘religious’ activities, but God has been pruning these things out of my life, showing me how unimportant they really are to relational living. This post about my devotions and quiet times.
Read Your Bible Daily
“Read the Bible daily. Make it part of every day’s business to read and meditate on some portion of God’s Word. Gather your manna fresh every morning. Choose your own seasons and hours. Do not scramble over and hurry your reading. Give your Bible the best, and not the...
Read the Bible: Just Do It
Begin reading your Bible this very day. The way to do a thing is to do it, and the way to read the Bible is actually to read it. It is not meaning, or wishing, or resolving, or intending, or thinking about it; that will not advance you one step. You must positively...

12 Things You Might Not Have Learned in a Classroom
Many years ago I read something else that John Taylor Gatto wrote… I printed it out and stuck it on the wall. But many house moves later and I have lost it, which is a shame. However, whilst searching for it I came across this post. Higher Education: 12 Things…
Finally… a homeschool post!
This is, after all, a blog by a homeschool mum eh? There’s not been much posting about homeschool related matters lately though. Okay, time to update on what the boys are doing for their ‘lessons’ lately. If you’ve known us for awhile,…

My Epiphany on Non Negotiables
I am buzzing! Monday morning I was feeling down after jumping on the scales. I know I don’t like the scales and I don’t even do a weigh in on Monday so why did I even jump on them? That was dumb. Since then, I’ve had an epiphany of sorts, sparked by…
High Intensity Interval Training for Homeschool Mums
If you have read any of my Fitn40 posts you would have seen the acronym HIIT. You may have wondered what on earth it is all about. Quite simply, it is short for High Intensity Interval Training– a method of working out. You can see my initial thoughts on it in a…

Wise Economic Survival Guide
Some wise advice was shared, from the following article, on HOMEschool Fellowship. The full article is by Chuck Norris, recalling his mother's wisdom. I looked at the original article and thought it was too good not to share, especially when I turned on the news...
Persuasion, manipulation, encouragement…call it what you will. Just eat your greens!
Some may call it manipulation but I call it the art of gentle persuasion. 😉 Gentle encouragement, strong encouragement, gentle persuasion, narrowing down the choices... call it what you want. I just want to get the greens down! A few years ago I made my family drink...
