Threads of Grace
Life is messy
Welcome to Simply Susan, where I write honestly about faith, marriage, motherhood and the everyday threads of God’s grace.
So grab a coffee.
Pull up a chair.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Walking humblythrough faith, family and life’s adventures.
Come in, come in! Have a seat around the table so we can pause, pour a coffee, and discover God’s grace woven through the threads of everyday life.
Life hasn’t always been neat and tidy, None of my ducks are in a row. Like many women, I’ve known seasons of joy, disappointment, deep hurt, and unexpected adventure. As I look back over the years, I can see the threads of God’s grace woven through every season—through joy and heartbreak, marriage and motherhood, unanswered questions, quiet faithfulness, and even the unexpected adventures of later life.

Looking back over my life, I can see a thread.
Sometimes that disappeared beneath grief.
Sometimes it seemed tangled beyond repair.
Sometimes it was woven with unexpected joy.
But through every season, God never let go of the thread.
Simply Susan is where I share honest reflections on marriage, motherhood, faith, books, coffee, being a SAHM, working outside the home, motorcycles, and the everyday moments where God’s grace quietly meets us.

The Promised One: Week 2: Creation
A Bible study where we learn of the newness of the world and how The Eternal Word Illumined the darkness, ordered the chaos, filled the emptiness and breathed the breath of life into man and then… rested.

The Promised One: Week One: The Road to Emmaus
Nancy starts by telling us why we’re starting our study of Genesis with the end of Jesus’s earthly ministry. For it is there that something is revealed that makes us want to go back to the very beginning. This week we’re beginning at the end and next week we continue at the beginning!

Fearless Parenting
I’m not scared anymore. And it’s beautiful. Freeing. Relaxed. And joyful.Too often I tried to influence my little ones. Tried to control them. I micro-managed them. The lessons God has revealed to me have been the only thing that keep me going at times. It is not hopeless, but it isn’t just about homeschooling- it is so much bigger than that. God wants to reach you, to teach you, to blow your mind with Himself. But sometimes, like with me, He has to get some stuff out of the way so that we will listen. To parent out of freedom and grace is refreshing. It’s totally liberating!

What's for tea: August
Confession time: I have not followed a menu plan since Abi & Mr. H announced their engagement. I have barely cooked. We’ve been making do, but it has taken a toll on our bodies. Last week I started easing back into cooking and preparing fixed lunches. I take time with these things. I am, by nature, highly unorganised. I take some time to find my groove and whilst I’m in it everything is great. However it doesn’t take much to knock me out of my groove and the engagement/wedding did just that. So this is the first menu plan in quite a few weeks. (And it’s an off-pay week as well, so I’m doing okay)
Your turn: family bible study
We all desire for our children to know and love the Lord and be literate when it comes to the Bible. What have you done this week toward that? What lessons from the word have you learned with your family over the last week? What do you plan to study in the following week? Your turn!
Coffee explained
Confused over coffee? espresso? Latte? Double mocha? How do you have your coffee?
